PreOp

Countdown – 45

Day 45 pre-op.

Dinner last night:
Roghan Josh (goat) and Butter Chicken with Rice.

Yesterday we cracked the ham as planned – and relished in our delicious ham sandwiches for lunch.
Soooo good!

The Wife ended up having an unexpected Client mid-afternoon, so at least we didn’t spend all afternoon slugging in front of the tele.

While she was off doing what she does so well, I decided to do some research on ‘Weight-Loss Shakes’.
I compared four of the ones I have most heard recommended – which includes the one preferred by my personal Surgeon.

I used the nutritional information panel for each individual shake as the information source.
I also chose the same base flavour (chocolate) for the comparison.

Shakes I compared:

  • Optifast
  • KicStart
  • FeelGood
  • Formulite

The results were quite interesting…

Personally, I feel like the best bang for your buck comes down to Formulite being the outright winner, due to Kicstart and Optifasts high sugar content.

And whilst FeelGood came in second highest for protein value, and was the highest in fibre – it was the second highest for saturated (unhealthy) fats, and was the obvious loser when it came to vitamins and minerals.

Optifast it appears is a good all-rounder, with good attention paid to the vitamin and mineral content – however may cause issues for those with a lactose intolerance.

Each Surgeon and Dietician will have their own guidelines for their patients – which should be followed, or a discussion held if you’re not in agreement – but I personally found it interesting to be able to look through each option, as (believe it or not) I like to know what’s going into my body.

If you’re interested, you will find the stats listed here.
